Hemp Butter a cure for winter skin

With the cold weather of winter along comes the dry, itchy skin and increase in eczema and other dry skin conditions.

If you suffer from these conditions it is important to keep your skin hydrated.  Make sure you drink lots of water (6-8 glasses a day) this will aid in keeping your skin hydrated.  It is also important to apply moisturizer daily.  Lotions are great but be careful because some store bought lotions contain alchohol which helps the lotion absorb quicker, but will also dry out your skin.

Hempseed oil absorbs in the skin naturally helping to smooth and moisturize your skin.  A cream or lotion made with this oil will help reduce dry, itchy winter skin.

Tonight I'm going to do better than that, I'm going to make a Hemp Butter which should help clear up dry cracked skin as well.

Dead Sea Mud Soap

Dead Sea Mud Soap
Dead Sea Mud Soap is a moisturizing soap that contains minerals and salts that have nourishing and healing qualities.

The Dead Sea Mud is helpful in treating skin conditions such as acne, eczema, psoriasis as well as dry itchy skin.  It also contains the salt that has the ability to draw toxins from the body.  Thus is on of my favorite soaps.   I also have a customer that uses this as a shampoo bar and claims it has cured her dandruff.

Hemp Soap - Forbidden

I'm making a new batch of Hemp Soap today a very popular scent.  It's called forbidden.  Originally it had a mix of 5 essential oils, but I've cut it back to 4 and it smells just as wonderful.  The other ingredient was getting a little to expensive, as happens with essential oils.

This bar will be ready for sale in about 4 weeks.

Tea Tree Oil

Today as I was making a batch of Tea Tree Oil Soap I was thinking of all the things
I have learned about tea tree oil, and I'm sure there are many more to learn.

Tea Tree Oil comes from the Melaleuca Tree, which grows in Australia. The oil from this tree is skin healing, has strong antiseptic, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral properties.

Historically Tea Tree oil was used to heal cuts, wounds and skin infections, but over the years it was found to be aid in athlete’s feet, sunburn, rashes and skin healing. Tea tree oil has also been used in the treatment of acne.

The aborigines have used the leaves of the Tea Tree for centuries to heal skin infections, cuts and wounds.

During the Second World War the first aid kits issued to Australian soldiers contained Tea Tree Oil. The oil was used to disinfect and speed the healing of wounds without damaging healthy tissue. This oil was so important to the war efforts that anyone working in the production of tea tree oil was exempt from military duty.

Check out more customer comments on our Website at http://www.just4usoaps.com/Customer_Comments.html

Cheryl - 108 Mile House - "I don't know but that muscle ease sure works on bug bites! After sun lotion is the best, OK so is the shaving soap! Just try it you will never buy anything else again!"

Cathy - PG - Lookin good! By the way I love the gardener's hand cream. I was pulling out some stinging nettles without gloves and the cream took the "sting" out almost immediately. Good stuff, Teresa.

Cathy - Prince George - Hey Teresa. Used your "Bug Off" out on the boat this past week. We like to have a window open a bit at night so I sprayed some on a cloth and stuck it in the window latch. No one was bothered by bugs all night. Wrapped the cloth in a baggy and used for several nights. Great stuff. Thanks"

Telford - Williams Lake -I have terribly dry skin and when I use the soaps, it makes my skin feel hydrated again as well as smelling terrific. I also love that these products are all natural, no chemicals or preservatives used. I will continue to be a loyal and returning customer

Lavender has been used for a long time Cleopatra seduced Marc Antony with Lavender, it was used in pipe smoking to enhance the flavor of the other herbs, and the oils where used on the body for the elegant aroma and also as an insect repellent.  Lavender was so popular in the Roman Times that the flowers were sold for the equivalent of a farmer’s wages for a month, or fifty haircuts.  Lavender was used in Roman Times to scent bath water and believed to restore the skin.

This incredible herb also has disinfectant and deodorizing properties making it an important flower and oil used in London when the Great Plague hit.  Lavender was used to protect against sickness.  It was worn around the wrists.

Lavender oil was used in World War I as an antiseptic and has long been used to disinfect sores and get rid of head lice.

I was amazed when taking my course and learned that Lavender essential oil will heal a burn faster and quicker than Aloe Vera.  I have tested this and it is true.

Lavender not only acts as an insect repellent, but it will soothe and heal insect bites as well and it is one of very few essential oils that are safe for babies.  So a baby lotion scented with Lavender should help keep baby safe from insect bites.

Lavender can be used on all skin types and is said to help heal acne, dermatitis, eczema, inflammation, psoriasis, insect bites and stings, scaring and burns.  Also helps for muscle aches and pains, and helps a person relax.  Lavender is often used in pillows or sprays to help a person sleep better.

The cautions with use of Lavender are:  to avoid it in the first two trimesters of pregnancy and although good for high blood pressure avoid it if you have low blood pressure.

The benefits of Rose hip oil for the skin

Benefits of Rose hip Oil for skin are better than any store brand moisturizer.  Rose hip Oil comes from the rose family and is found growing all over north and south America, Europe, Northern Africa and Western and Central Asia.

The oil of the rose hips contain Vitamin A, B, D and E, high concentrations of vitiamin C and is extremely hydrating to the skin.  Vitamin A helps delay the effects of skin aging and promotes collagen and elastin levels to increase.  Rose hip oil soaks into the skin easily without leaving a greasy residue and can be used on all skin types.

Some of the benefits of rose hip oil for the skin and the conditions that rose hip oil can help improve are as follows:
-scarring - from surgery, injury or burns
-premature aging
-photo aging - sun damage
-acne scarring
-eczema
-sunburn (after the redness is gone)
-skin rehydration
-reducing fine facial lines
-improving skin tone
-improving old scars
-pigmentation

To gain the benefits of this incredible oil, apply a few drops to the skin and massage in until absorbed. Studies show for skin repairing this oil needs to be applied daily for months.  For example, for those people who have spent many summers in the sun and now have pigmented skin, fine lines all over, and dried skin, can have all of that repaired and replaced with flawless skin tone in a couple of months (2-4 months).  So make rose hip oil your daily moisturizer and see some real benefits.

Aloe Vera - the amazing healing gel

Aloe Vera is often called the burn plant it has been grown as a houseplant for years. The gel this plant produces is an amazing healer being used to heal burns, scalds, scrapes, sunburn, acne, eczema, wrinkles, dry and itchy skin and wounds.

Used as a moisturizer on the face, the aloe vera gel can help reduce wrinkles and dark circles under the eyes. With the use of aloe vera gel the skin will become softer, moisturized and have a healthy glow.

Aloe vera gel is rich in Vitamin C and E, which helps protect the skin from drying out and helps keep it firm. It will also restore dry chapped lips when used on them.

When applied to injuries, aloe vera has been known to help reduce pain and infections as well as help lower the chance of scarring while aiding in the regrowth of healthy skin tissue.

To use this incredible gel cut an inch of so from the top of the leaf, scrape or squeeze the gel from the leaf and use this gel to treat your burn or other skin condition. The leaf of the plant will develop a scar but continue to grow.

Just remember store bought stabilized aloe does not have the abilities that fresh aloe has.

To use for wounds, clean the wound and apply the gel. To make your own medicinal oil slice up leaves from the plant into ¼ inch pieces, cover these leaves with vegetable oil. Any oil will work, but I would use skin friendly oil such as olive, jojoba, rose hip or apricot kernel. Let this mixture blend for 60 days, then strain, and keep in a dark glass jar. This oil will last indefinitely. You can also place the gel in zip lock bags, put in the freezer and use when a cold gel is needed quickly.

Making soap

Today was a soap making day.

Blueberry seems to be a popular scent all of a sudden, so I made up a batch of that and then of course this time of year the gardener's soap goes pretty fast so a batch of that is on the go as well.

Trying out some scents for the up coming Garlic Fest this summer, I made an anti-garlic soap which is scented with Anise and Orange Essential oil with some coffee grounds added for grit and it's ability to remove scents.  So with the cleaning power of Orange and the odor reducing power of Anise and Coffee this should be a great soap.

Well back at it..........

Hempseed Oil Lotion

Today I made a batch of Hemp seed Oil Lotion.  I use this oil because it is  an oil rich in omega 3 and omega 6 EFA (essential fatty acids) and GLA (gamma Linolenic Acid).  GLA is an essential fatty acid that resembles sebum, a natural lubricant found in the skin. These EFA’s are needed to keep moisture in the body and are what makes hemp oil moisturizing to the skin.

Skin care products containing Hemp seed oil sooth and restore dry and damaged skin relieving discomfort and increasing moisture retention.  The GLA in Hempseed Oil is why products made with this oil can offer relief of skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema and acne.

With regular use, skin care products made with hemp seed oil can leave the skin feeling soft, smooth and moisturized, helping to slow down the aging effect.

I also use Jojoba oil in this lotion because of its ability to provide all day moisturization; it is readily absorbed into the skin and does not block the pores.  Jojoba oil will soothe wrinkles and fine lines due to dry skin leaving your skin will feeling smooth and soft.

Moisturizing Shampoo Bar

I have made a wonderful travel shampoo bar.  You can take this moisturizing shampoo bar on the plane, or when you go hiking or camping. It will clean and moisturize your hair and for the camper it has Neem Oil (which has bug repellent properties) and is scented with Lavender and Rosemary both are essential oils used in natural bug repellent sprays.

Some of the oils this shampoo bar is made with are:  Coconut oil which is an excellent moisturizer for dry and damaged hair, Almond Oil which is rich in Vitamin E and helps repair and strengthen hair, Olive Oil which gently cleanses adding moisture and shine to your hair and Castor Oil which helps draw moisture and creates a wonderful lather. This specially formulated Shampoo Bar will leave your hair feeling soft and smooth.

Dead Sea Mud

The Dead Sea is not connected to any other body of water so as the water in the sea evaporates the salt and minerals are absorbed into the bottom of the seabed. The mud is then extracted and purified; this mud contains a high density of minerals and salts which have incredible nourishing as well as healing qualities.

Dead Sea mud is very helpful in treating skin disorders such as acne, eczema, psoriasis as well as itchy dry skin. This is because it contains minerals such as magnesium, bromine, calcium and potassium, which help our skin to maintain the right moisture and hydration levels needed, and because of this Dead Sea mud also helps to reduce the signs of aging.

Other benefits of using Dead Sea mud are because like the Dead Sea salt the mud also has the ability to draw toxins from the body. The fine grains in the mud remove dirt and old skin cells, which will encourage your skin to rejuvenate. This mud is also said to strengthen the root of our hair if applied to the scalp as well as improve and stimulate blood circulation.

Dead Sea mud can be used in masks, skin cleansing products, and moisturizers.

Today I’m going to make a soap with it. http://www.just4usoaps.com.

A little bit about Hemp

Hemp seed oil comes from the seed of the Hemp Plant it is pressed to release this wonderful oil rich in omega 3 and omega 6 EFA (essential fatty acids) and GLA (gamma Linolenic Acid). The growing of Hemp does not require the use of any pesticides and every part of the plant is used when harvested. The production of Hemp has a very low impact on the environment.

I was visiting my mother and one morning picked up her Mary Kay night cream and looked at the ingredients

I was visiting my mother and one morning picked up her Mary Kay night cream and looked at the ingredients. The first three listed ingredients are Petrochemicals – Petrolatum, Mineral Oil and Paraffin all by- products of the petroleum industry.

Petrolatum is just another name for Petroleum Jelly, which is a soft wax; it is used in cosmetic creams and sold as a skin protector. Some of the side effects of using this product include suffocating the skin, acne, and premature aging.

Mineral Oil has the same side effects; sadly it is used in many personal care products because of its cost not because it is good for your skin. It clogs the skins pores because it is difficult to absorb. When the skins pores are clogged it makes it difficult for the skin to breath and absorb natural moisture. Unlike other oils there are no beneficial nutrients in mineral oil.

Paraffin has the same side effects as Petrolatum and Mineral oil. I guess all I want to say about this product is that it comes from the petroleum refining process. Paraffin is a grey sludge that has to be bleached and processed before it is suitable to be used in skin creams.

Now there are some good ingredients in the night cream. The next three are: beeswax, Candelilla wax, Hydrogenated Soy glycerides although being the 4th, 5th and 6th ingredients I have to wonder how much is really in this cream. These ingredients are all good for the skin. Beeswax is know for it’s healing properties, Candelilla wax is said to help treat inflammation in the skin such as acne and Hydrogenated Soy glycerides help to increase the elasticity and softness of the skin as well as moisturizing and reducing wrinkles.

Maybe these ingredients are to help offset the possible side effects of the first three.

Carnauba Wax is the next ingredient this wax is often used in place of beeswax. It is commonly used in lipstick for it’s glossy dry finish.

The next ingredients are.

Propylparaben, which is used in cosmetics as a preservative and butylparaben, which is used as an antifungal preservative. Without these products the shelf life of this product would be reduced. Studies have been conducted showing that parabens are dangerous. Below are links to some articles regarding Parabens.
